Jakarta - Indonesia will not normalize diplomatic relations with Israel, despite pressure from some parties to do so from time to time.
"Oh, no, from time to time there are always parties who say it's time for Indonesia to normalize. For us, our position is clear as I said," Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said through an official statement, Tuesday (16/4/2024).
However, Retno assessed that the pressure to normalize diplomatic relations with Israel is a common thing in the international world.
However, Retno emphasized that Indonesia will not normalize diplomatic relations with Israel.
"There are so many, it's normal in the international world, expectations and pressures. But so far our position remains no," she said.
Previously, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs dismissed the issue that Indonesia would normalize diplomatic relations with Israel in order to be accepted as a member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
"I emphasize that until now, there is no plan to open diplomatic relations with Israel, especially in the midst of the current situation of Israeli atrocities in Gaza," Indonesian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lalu Muhamad Iqbal said in his official statement, Friday (12/4/2024).
Iqbal stated that Indonesia is consistently at the forefront of defending the rights of the Palestinian people.
Indonesia's position has not changed and remains firmly supportive of Palestinian independence within the framework of a two-state solution.
