Experts Appreciate Pertamina's Contribution to Achieving Oil Lifting Targets

Jakarta - Airlangga University economics and business expert Imron Mawardi has given a positive assessment of Pertamina's significant contribution to achieving the national oil lifting target.

This achievement is reflected in the 2025 State Budget, which successfully exceeded 605,000 barrels per day (bpd).

According to Imron, the role of state-owned oil and gas companies is very significant, as these companies control most of the domestic oil production.

The fact that the six largest lifting contributors are Pertamina subsidiaries further strengthens its position. The six companies are PT Pertamina EP Cepu (manager of the Cepu Block), PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan, PT Pertamina EP, PT Pertamina Hulu Energi ONWJ, PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam, and PT Pertamina Hulu Energi OSES.

‘So the current level of control over domestic oil production is indeed good. I hope that in the future Pertamina will need to increase its contribution further in the upstream sector. We now have high hopes for Pertamina,’ said Imron in an official statement on Tuesday (13/1/2026).

With increased domestic production, crude oil imports for domestic fuel needs, which currently reach around one million barrels per day, can be reduced.

“We still hope that Pertamina can increase the productivity of its wells and develop new wells. Thus, we hope that our oil imports will continue to decline,” he said.

More than just contributing to the energy sector, Imron explained that the oil and gas industry controlled by Pertamina has a significant multiplier effect on the economy.

This sector has long linkages, especially forward linkages, enabling it to drive various other industrial sectors. Contributions come not only from taxes, non-tax state revenues (PNBP), and dividends, but also from downstream economic activities.

The achievement of the national oil lifting target was also confirmed by the Head of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), Djoko Siswanto. Djoko stated that the target in the 2025 State Budgetwas officially achieved thanks to massive efforts amid the dynamics and challenges of the upstream oil and gas industry throughout the year.

‘How can we achieve the APBN target of 605? Well, thank God, thank God, in the last 1-2 days, with various extraordinary efforts, we have achieved 605, thank God,’ he said.

This achievement is an important momentum in Indonesia's efforts to reduce its dependence on imports and strengthen the foundations of energy security in the future. (InfoPublik)
