Algeria Strengthens Relations with ASEAN

Jakarta, InfoPublik - Algerian Ambassador to Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam and ASEAN, Abdelouahab Osmane, said that Algeria is seeking to enhance its relations with ASEAN to the level of Sectoral Dialogue Partnership.

‘In line with its principles, Algeria is seeking to enhance its relations with ASEAN to the level of Sectoral Dialogue Partnership, while continuing to build relations with other countries based on the principles of mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of other parties,’ said Ambassador Abdelouahab, through an official statement, at the celebration of Algeria's National Day in Jakarta on Monday (3/11/2025).

According to Ambassador Abdelouahab, strengthening these relations includes increasing investment and trade with various partners.

Furthermore, he said that the friendship between Algeria and Indonesia is not new, as the two countries have had diplomatic relations since 1963.

Moreover, in October 2025, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Wamenlu RI) Muhammad Anis Matta paid a working visit to Algeria. ‘In the coming months, it is hoped that there will be high-level visits from both sides, particularly within the framework of the Joint Commission for Economic and Technical Cooperation and Political Consultation between the two countries,’ he said.

Ambassador Abddelouahab said that the two countries had also recently exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation between companies from both sides, especially given the high interest of Indonesian companies in investing in Algeria and the economic appeal of Indonesia to Algeria, including in the fields of investment and trade.
