Jakarta, InfoPublik - The annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Finance Ministers took place in Incheon, South Korea, on 21–22 October 2025. Under the theme ‘Sustainable Growth and Shared Prosperity in the Region’, the forum produced a number of important agreements, including a Joint Statement and a new roadmap for the next five years.
In a written statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Finance received on Tuesday (28/10/2025), it was stated that the finance ministers of APEC member countries reaffirmed their commitment to realising an open, dynamic, resilient and peaceful Asia-Pacific community by 2040.
During the meeting, they also agreed on a new roadmap called the Incheon Plan, which will serve as a guide for the APEC Finance Ministers' Process for the next five years until 2030. The Incheon Plan focuses on four main pillars: Innovation, Finance, Fiscal Policy, and Access and Opportunity for All.
At the meeting, the Indonesian Minister of Finance was represented by Arief Wibisono, Expert Staff for Financial Services and Capital Markets, as Acting Expert Staff for Macroeconomics and International Finance.
The meeting agreed on a Joint Statement led by Koo Yun Cheol, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea. Four issues were agreed upon in the Joint Statement, namely Global and Regional Economy, Innovation, Digital Finance, and Fiscal and Finance Policy.
On the second day of the meeting (22 October 2025), a joint session was held between the APEC Finance Ministers and Ministers for Structural Reform to discuss a joint agenda on Innovation and Digitalisation.
APEC member representatives held intensive discussions on ways to accelerate digital transformation in the region, including through the development of artificial intelligence (AI), research and development (R&D), regulatory reform, and talent development.
Discussions in this joint session highlighted how innovation can be translated into tangible benefits for workers, communities, and businesses in the Asia-Pacific region.
This session also served as a prelude to the APEC Structural Reform Ministerial Meeting (SRMM), where ministers will continue discussions on the role of structural reform in strengthening competitiveness, resilience, and supporting sustainable economic growth in the Asia-Pacific.
