Psychology Expert Appreciates Government Regulations that Protect Indonesian Children

Jakarta - Psychology and education expert from the University of Indonesia (UI), Prof Roes Mini Agoes Salim, appreciates the government's efforts to protect Indonesian children from the negative influence of social media through the issuance of a Government Regulation on the Governance of the Implementation of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas). This was conveyed by Prof. Roes Mini, through his statement received by InfoPublik, Friday (4/4/2025).

‘We should be grateful that the government has intervened and is very concerned with the role of parents and educators in seeing the progress of Indonesian children, and in ensuring that they are not exposed to the negative aspects of the internet, especially social media,’ he said.

Prof Roes Mini revealed that currently Indonesia is listed as the 4th largest country experiencing problems of sexual abuse through social media.

In addition, there are 5.5 million children in Indonesia who are exposed to pornographic videos so the public should be aware of this.

According to him, this can cause a number of problems for children such as cognitive, social and emotional disorders.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto had issued a Government Regulation (PP) on the Governance of the Implementation of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas), Friday (28/3/2025).

The five main points of PP Tunas are, first, the digital platform must ensure the protection of children over commercial interests;

Second, digital platforms are prohibited from profiling children's data;

Third, there are applicable age limits and supervision of the digital platform's system for account creation.

Fourth, digital platforms are prohibited from commodifying children;

And fifth, there are strict sanctions for violating digital platforms.
