Female Candidate Representation to Reach 30 Percent in 2024 Election

Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU), Hasyim Asy'ari, said that the representation of female legislative candidates in 18 political parties in the 2024 General Elections has reached above 30 per cent.

"Female legislative candidates from 18 political parties and all electoral districts are above 30 per cent," Hasyim said in a written statement on Friday (3/11/2023).

Hasyim said the average number of female candidates from 18 political parties reached 37.13 per cent.

"If you look at the average number of percentages, it is approximately 37 per cent. The distribution of each political party is in the press release material that we will convey," he said.

Based on KPU data presented at the press conference on the determination of the permanent candidate list (DCT) for members of the House of Representatives, the party with the largest representation of female candidates is the Garuda Party with a total of 236 women out of 570 candidates.

The second party in terms of female candidate representation is Perindo, which nominates 231 women out of a total of 579 candidates.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) is in third place with 225 women out of a total of 580 candidates.

Previously, the Indonesian KPU determined 9,917 permanent candidate lists (DCT) for DPR RI members from 18 political parties participating in the 2024 elections spread across 84 electoral districts.

"For the DCT of DPR RI members in the 2024 elections, after we verify the number of people who are eligible to enter the DCT, is 9,917 people," said Hasyim Asy'ari in a press conference at the KPU Office, Jakarta, Friday.

For the DCT of DPD RI members, the KPU RI determines as many as 668 candidates for 38 electoral districts, consisting of 535 men and 133 women.
