Keeping the Tradition, Paguyuban Jati Gembol Holds Earth Almsgiving


Malang - Commemorating the Islamic New Year 1 Muharam 1445 Hijriah, the Paguyuba Jati Gembol , Kemantren, Sukun Subdistrict, Malang City held an Earth Alms (Sedekah Bumi, nyadran) event, Thursday (3/8/2023).

The Earth Alms procession began with a carnival that took the start at Lentera Garden Pelataran Perumahan Sukun Pondok Indah, Bandungrejosari Village and finished at the Punden Jati Gembol.

Also present on this occasion were Deputy Mayor of Malang Ir. H. Sofyan Edi Jarwoko, member of Malang City Regional House of Representatives Wanedi and community leader H. Moch. Anton.

The Deputy Mayor of Malang City expressed his appreciation for the implementation of the earth alms activity which is a tradition that continues to be preserved.

He said this activity is an effort to preserve culture as well as a form of gratitude for the Kemantren community in Bandungrejosari Village.

"Thankful for the gifts from Allah SWT after going through the Covid-19 pandemic. Alhamdulillah, we are still given health so that we are still given the opportunity to move until now," said the man who is often called Bung Edi, Thursday (3/8/2023).

Bung Edi revealed, for two years hit by the global Covid-19 pandemic, many colleagues, relatives, and residents have died from the virus.

Therefore, on this occasion the community together prayed to Allah SWT. "Hopefully in the future we will all always be given health, safety and also blessings in living life," said Bung Edi praying.

In addition to the cultural heritage action, various other activities were also held at Punden Jati Gembol.

Such as joint prayers, donations to orphans, fireworks, and an all-night shadow puppet show with puppeteer Ki Ardhi Purbo Antono who presented the Gatotkaca Winisuda play. (cah/yon/toeb)
