JAKARTA - Indonesian digital asset platform Bittime expanded its tokenized United States stock offerings on Oct. 23, providing local retail investors alternative exposure to Wall Street tech firms. The move comes as global financial institutions increasingly integrate blockchain technology into traditional asset classes.
The exchange, which is regulated by Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK), added four new assets, namely DELLB, SNDKB, MUB, and SMCIB. This expansion brings its total portfolio to 37 tokenized equities.
Ryan Lymn, operations director at Bittime, said the integration of digital assets requires reliable infrastructure, clear regulatory frameworks, and robust consumer protection to ensure sustainable growth.
“Tokenization opens opportunities to develop new ways in issuing, distributing, and accessing financial assets,” Lymn said.
Institutional appetite for digital assets is rising rapidly on a global scale. A State Street study published on Oct. 6 surveyed 300 asset managers and wealth owners, finding that 51% expect digital assets to achieve mainstream adoption within five years. This represents a significant jump from 42% in 2025 and 11% in 2024.
In Southeast Asia's largest economy, financial regulators are actively assessing the technology. OJK reported in September that seven participants completed testing in its regulatory sandbox, experimenting with tokenized gold, securities, and property rights. However, officials cautioned that completing the sandbox phase does not automatically grant a company full operational licensing or marketing rights.
While tokenization promises faster settlement times and broader financial distribution, it does not eliminate underlying market risks. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, through its educational portal Investor.gov, noted that the legal structure of tokenized securities varies significantly. Some models grant direct ownership of the underlying security, while others merely provide price exposure without conferring actual shareholder rights.
The expansion of these tokenized offerings arrives against a backdrop of tightening global financial conditions. Major technology companies, including Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, and Oracle, issued an estimated $194 billion in corporate bonds through July 7 to finance artificial intelligence infrastructure projects. Heavy corporate debt issuance, combined with U.S. government borrowing, could drive up bond yields and pressure volatile digital assets such as Bitcoin.
Consequently, tokenized traditional equities may serve as an alternative avenue for digital asset investors seeking exposure outside of pure cryptocurrencies. Lymn urged retail traders to scrutinize the specific rights, custody mechanisms, and risks associated with each token before committing capital.
“For investors, diversification is not just about adding the number of assets in a portfolio, but also evaluating how each instrument works and whether it suits their investment goals,” Lymn said.
Bittime advised its users to review all official product documentation, noting that a token's value relies heavily on its structural framework rather than just the brand name of the underlying asset.
