Jakarta, InfoPublik – The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, inaugurated the New Tanah Abang Station in Jakarta on Tuesday (4/11/2025).
This inauguration marks an important milestone in strengthening the national public transport system, especially in densely populated urban areas such as Greater Jakarta.
The President arrived at Tanah Abang Baru Station after travelling by electric train (KRL) from Manggarai Station. Upon arrival, the Head of State was enthusiastically welcomed by passengers waiting for departure, while he inspected the revitalised platform area and station facilities.
In his speech, the President emphasised that the construction of Tanah Abang Baru Station is part of the government's commitment to strengthening intermodal connectivity and providing safe, comfortable and affordable public transport services for the entire community. "Trains and all mass transport systems are a very strategic and vital part of modern society. I have been informed that Indonesian trains carry up to 486 million passengers per year," he said.
Previously, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwaghandi reported that Tanah Abang Baru Station is one of the transportation hubs with the highest intensity in the Greater Jakarta area. “This station has been operating in phases since June 2025 and serves five main KRL routes: Kampung Bandan, Rangkas Bitung, Duri, Tangerang, and Manggarai–Bogor–Cikarang. Passenger capacity has increased from 141,000 to 380,000 passengers per day,” explained the Minister of Transportation.
Tanah Abang Baru Station was built with a futuristic design and modern urban architecture, making it one of PT KAI’s major revitalisation projects in line with the government’s vision to strengthen urban connectivity infrastructure.
The completion of this project is expected to facilitate the daily mobility of Jakarta residents and surrounding areas, particularly for KRL commuters and other public transport users who rely on Tanah Abang as a primary transit point. (BPMI Setpres)
