Prabowo Subianto Emphasises the Importance of Strengthening ASEAN-South Korea Partnership to Face Global Challenges

Jakarta, InfoPublik – The President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Prabowo Subianto, attended the 26th ASEAN–Republic of Korea (ROK) Summit held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Malaysia, on Monday (27/10/2025).

In his statement, President Prabowo emphasised the importance of strengthening ASEAN's partnership with the Republic of Korea in facing increasingly complex global challenges. ‘We hope to advance the ASEAN–ROK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in facing urgent and increasingly complex challenges,’ said President Prabowo.

The President emphasised that amid rapidly changing global dynamics, cooperation between ASEAN and South Korea needs to focus on efforts to keep the economy open, connected and inclusive. "In this dynamic landscape, it is very important for ASEAN and the ROK to work together to keep our economies open, connected and inclusive. This will enable us to create an environment that supports sustainable growth and opens up real opportunities for shared prosperity," he continued.

The President assessed that strengthening economic cooperation mechanisms is key to achieving these goals. He emphasised the need for full implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and increased effectiveness of the ASEAN–South Korea Free Trade Area. ‘Regional supply chains must be strengthened. ASEAN is on track to become one of the most dynamic digital markets in the world. The gross value of digital goods in this region is projected to reach USD1 trillion by 2030,’ said President Prabowo.

Furthermore, the President of the Republic of Indonesia said that the synergy between ASEAN's digital potential and South Korea's technological strength could be the driving force for regional transformation. According to him, this collaboration can encourage progress in the fields of digital infrastructure, talent development, and artificial intelligence (AI) governance to build a sustainable and inclusive future. ‘We aspire for ASEAN to develop rapidly as a vital engine of global growth,’ he said.

In addition to economic cooperation, President Prabowo also emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region as the foundation for sustainable development. He affirmed Indonesia's support for South Korea's constructive role in maintaining world peace. ‘Indonesia supports South Korea's efforts to be a partner for peace and security, defusing tensions, promoting dialogue, and building constructive engagement. The regional-South Korea partnership must be a force for good that brings peace and prosperity for all,’ President Prabowo said. (BPMI Setpres)
