Government Accelerates Construction of Permanent Public Schools in Magelang

Jakarta, InfoPublik - Deputy Minister of Social Affairs, Agus Jabo Priyono, is pushing for the acceleration of the construction of a permanent public school in Magelang Regency, Central Java.

"Administratively, it is currently being processed by the Magelang Regency Government. We hope that by mid-November 2025, all requirements will be completed so that construction can begin immediately," said Agus Jabo in an official statement during an inspection of the proposed site for the permanent People's School in Magelang on Sunday (26/10/2025).

The site spans 10 hectares and is located in the highland area of Girirejo Village, Kaliangkrik Sub-district, Magelang Regency.

The location is prepared for two pilot public schools in Magelang Regency, namely the Senior High School (SRMA) 43 located at the Antasena Centre in Magelang and SRMA 15 located at the Tegalrejo Vocational Training Centre.

Each of these two pilot schools currently has 100 students. ‘If construction does not begin immediately, the student recruitment process next year could be disrupted. Therefore, we urge the Ministry of Public Works to follow up immediately so that construction can begin this year and the new academic year in 2026 can accept new students from primary, junior high, and senior high school levels,’ said the Deputy Minister.

Meanwhile, Girirejo Village Head Soleh Ismail stated that the community is enthusiastic about the plan to build a permanent public school. ‘Our community is very happy and fully supportive. In addition to allowing children to attend school closer to home, the presence of this public school will also open up new economic opportunities for local residents,’ he said.

Soleh said that many residents who have small businesses at home hope to be able to sell their goods or be involved in activities around the school.

The Girirejo Village Head hopes that residents in this area can also be empowered, so that this programme not only brings educational benefits, but also economic ones.

In addition, the location of the land on the Girirejo hill, which faces Mount Sumbing directly, offers beautiful views and cool air. ‘God willing, the children will enjoy studying here because the atmosphere is comfortable and supportive,’ said Soleh Ismail.
