Tonny Harjono, the Right Figure for Air Force Chief of Staff

Jakarta - The charismatic figure of Air Marshal M Tonny Harjono is considered appropriate to serve as the new Air Force Chief of Staff (KSAU) replacing Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo.

This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Marshal (Ret.) Hadi Tjahjanto when attending the handover of the position of Air Force Chief of Staff at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta, Friday (5/4/2024).

"In my opinion, it is appropriate for Pak Tonny to become Air Force Chief of Staff and immediately continue the programs that have been implemented by Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo," he said.

Hadi said the main task that must be carried out by the new KSAU is to carry out the readiness and capability of defense equipment to support the main tasks of the Indonesian National Army. Among them is the readiness of aircraft defense equipment, both fighter and heli aircraft. Then, the ability of personnel to pilot it.

The main thing to do, Hadi continued, is to support the main tasks of the Indonesian National Army. The first is airspace security, of course, radar equipment and supporting equipment must be prepared.

The second is to help secure the Malacca Strait, this is very important, because the issue of the Malacca Strait continues to exist, and third, securing the North Natuna Sea. "The role of the air force is very important there, both combat aircraft and transport aircraft, and especially reconnaissance aircraft," he continued.

The former Commander of the Indonesian National Army said that the next task is to secure border areas, both land borders between Indonesia and Malaysia, Indonesia and East Timor, and Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. In addition, the full relationship of military operations other than war is the security of vulnerable areas in Papua.

Most importantly at this time, soon April 2024 will enter the dry season, especially in Java and East Nusa Tenggara, and until September it will continue to enter the dry season and be followed by La Nina.

"So what we prepare, the Air Force immediately prepares defense equipment to avoid fires, and so on. I am sure Mr. Toni has experience in this matter to prepare the preparedness of defense equipment and the ability of its personnel," added Hadi. (InfoPublik)
