Jakarta - Tor Tor mass dance will be part of the Festival Indonesia (FI 2023) on October 6-8, 2023 in Melbourne Australia.
The dance is participated by Indonesian diaspora and foreign nationals, and is planned to record an achievement by entering the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI).
Indonesian Consul General in Melbourne Kuncoro Waseso said he was proud and enthusiastic about the mass dance agenda.
"I am sure this dance will amaze local residents and foreign tourists who are visiting Melbourne. Especially with a target of thousands of participants, we certainly hope that this activity can be recorded in the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI)," said Indonesian Consul General Melbourne, Kuncoro Waseso, through his written statement, Wednesday (4/10/2023).
The Tor Tor mass dance agenda will be held on Sunday (8/10/2023), at Argyle Square, Carlton, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and is free.
However, participants can enliven by buying woven ulos cloth for AU$15, which they can then wear during the mass dance. The ulos fabric is made by artisans from Samosir Regency, North Sumatra, and carries a rich cultural heritage.
The mass dance is a continuation of the successful organization of the Maumere mass dance at the 2022 Festival Indonesi (FI 2022), which involved more than 1200 people.
"We are optimistic that this mass dance agenda can be better than the same agenda last year. Given, this activity has great potential to be able to bring together and unite participants with diverse backgrounds in the wrapping of Indonesian art and culture," said FI 2023 Chairperson Celly Goeltom.
In addition to the Tor Tor mass dance, FI 2023 will also organize various other interesting events such as business forum, Indonesian Night, and outdoor festival on October 6-8, 2023. This festival aims to celebrate cultural diversity, strengthen friendship between diaspora and foreign nationals, and introduce Indonesian culinary diversity to the people of Melbourne, Victoria.
This is because the 2021 population census data shows that around 20,643 citizens among Victoria's population of 6.7 million were born in Indonesia.
FI 2023 is organized by Festival Indonesia Incorporated in collaboration with the Indonesian Consulate General in Melbourne with active support from the Indonesian community in Melbourne.
FI 2023 is also supported by Garuda Indonesia, Xendit, IIPC Sydney, Kabo Lawyers, Indomie, Batik Air, Integrity Lawyers as well as the Indonesian Trade Attaché in Canberra and the Indonesian Culinary Asssociation in Victoria (ICAV).
