The IX Congress of Solidaritas Perempuan Generates Ideas and Direction of Change for Women's Sovereignty


Jakarta - The IX Congress of Solidaritas Perempuan held on August 1 - 7, 2023 in Bandar Lampung City successfully elected and appointed new administrators for the period 2023 - 2027, namely the National Executive Board (BEN) consisting of the chairperson, program coordinator, and treasurer as well as the National Supervisory Board (DPN).

The elected BEN board members are Armayanti Sanusi as chairperson, Andriyeni as program coordinator, and Nur Asiah as treasurer. All three are women activists who are consistently at the forefront of the struggle for the defense of human rights, especially women's rights, who started their struggle from the regional to the national level.

"Solidaritas Perempuan (Women’s Solidarity for Human Rights) struggle with marginalized women to break the chain of oppression and impoverishment must become the agenda of other social movements. It must also be the state's agenda. Because women are not only fighting for themselves, but there is also the future of every entity in it," said Armayanti Sanusi in her first speech as chairperson of the National Executive Board of Solidaritas Perempuan on Monday (7/8).

The Congress Lampung also succeeded in generating ideas for change and agreeing on a mandate to strengthen the women's movement in fighting the patriarchal system that is manifested in social, cultural, political and economic life so that women are often in a marginalized and disadvantaged position.

In addition to electing and establishing a new board for the 2023-2027 period and agreeing on the organization's mandate, the Congress also succeeded in inaugurating the Solidaritas Perempuan Flobamoratas Women's Solidarity Community, East Nusa Tenggara as an effort to expand the women's movement and achieve the vision and mission of Solidaritas Perempuan.

"Of course, the expansion of the women's movement is a hope and spirit to continue to strengthen and expand the women's movement in fighting the oppressive partiarchal system and destroying the environment, depriving women of sovereignty over their lives and livelihoods," concluded Armayanti Sanusi.

The Congress of Solidaritas Perempuan is a four-year agenda held as an implementation of member sovereignty where members conduct deliberations to reflect on the work of one management period and agree in determining the direction of the organization's movement for the advancement of the women's movement from the regional, national, to the global level.

Since its establishment on December 10, 1990, Solidaritas Perempuan has successfully held nine congresses. In this ninth congress, at least 436 Solidaritas Perempuan members from all over Indonesia attended, either directly or indirectly.
