Jakarta - Digital transformation is now inevitable, information and communication technology has become a crucial pillar in the management of government and corporate public communication. In the midst of accelerating digital transformation, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi gave attention to Indonesian public relations practitioners. According to him, today's public relations practitioners need to be agile and adaptive amid the changes that occur.
"In the past, public relations only dealt with releases and articles in the media. Now, the digital space opens new horizons and changes the way the world seeks information. New technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), automation and all forms of digital platforms have become an integral part of public relations," he said during his opening remarks at the Opening Indonesia Public Relations Summit 2023 "Innovation for Reputation", in South Jakarta, Friday (4/8/2023).
According to the Minister, public relations practitioners globally make many innovations to catch up with the changing times. "They are required to have agility and adaptability, two key words to survive amid the swift flow of digital transformation," he said.
Citing a Statista survey in spring 2023, as many as 28 percent of public relations practitioners in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia have used AI technology. In addition, 33 percent of PR professionals in the world plan to explore AI ecosystems such as ChatGPT and DALL-E at work.
"The global PR industry is projected to be worth around USD 107 billion in 2023, up 6.6 percent from around USD 100.4 billion in the previous year. This annual figure is also expected to continue growing in the following years with a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5.7 percent, so that it will surpass 133 billion dollars by 2027," explained Minister Budi Arie.
In connection with this rapid growth, the Minister pointed out the importance of data-based collaboration so that the tasks, roles and opportunities to carve a good reputation can be carried out properly. Minister Budi Arie appreciated this meeting as part of the collaboration of Indonesian public relations practitioners.
"I am very enthusiastic to see PR practitioners from both the private sector and the government gathered here to share insights, experiences, and inspiration. I and the entire Ministry of Communication and Information are committed to continuing to implement a data-driven communication strategy and collaborate with partners and other stakeholders," he said.
