Jakarta - Former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sarwono Kusumaatmadja, who passed away on May 26, 2023, was one of the important figures and one of the fathers of Indonesia's development in the field of marine and fisheries.
This was said by the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono at the Remembrance of the Late Sarwono Kusumaatmadja event at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Balroom, Mina Gahati III Building Jakarta, Sunday (30/7/2023).
Sarwono, he said, implemented environmental monitoring with the aim of preserving nature. He played a role and contributed in forming Law No. 5 of 1990 concerning the conservation of biological natural resources and ecosystems.
Trenggono said Sarwono's dedication to the country is an example for the next generation as a legacy of the nation's children.
"On behalf of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, I would like to pay tribute to the family of the late Mr. Sarwono Kusumaatmaja for his service to the State," said Minister Trenggono.
Meanwhile, former Secretary General of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in the era of Minister Sarwono Kusumaatmaja, Sapta Nirwandar, said Sarwono Kusumaatmaja is a national figure who has been involved in politics, bureaucracy, and society.
In addition to the political world, Sarwono is also an activist with many positions held such as Minister of Empowerment of State Civil Apparatus and Bureaucracy (Menpan RB) and other Ministries in the era of President Soeharto and last served as Minister of Marine and Fisheries (KKP) in the era of President Abdurahman Wahid (Gus Dur).
His services and dedication certainly provide inspiration for the younger generation as well as us in remembering his services to the Republic of Indonesia.
Sarwono Kusumaatmadja who was born in Jakarta, on July 24, 1943, earned an engineering degree from ITB and graduated in 1974. He also held positions as a member of the House of Representatives (DPR-RI) from 1971-1988, and became a Member of the MPR in 1988. Sarwono also served as Secretary General of the Golkar Party in 1983-1988, became a member of BP-7 in 1984 and Chairman of the Indonesian Tennis Association (PELTI) for Organizational Affairs in 1986. He was also trusted as Chairman of the Bhakti Bangsa Foundation, and had the opportunity to become a member of DPD-RI from DKI Jakarta (2004).
